Many people want to degoogle themselves. Which is fair because Google is a corrupt company and spies on you and reads everything you do.. even emails, sells your data and tracks EVERYTHING you do... That is why many people, including myself have been slowly Degoogling their lives. PewDiePie made a GREAT video about Degoogling, but here is what I use and recommend! Of course Degoogling can be hard.. but if you take parts of Google out your life, you are doing a great thing for your privacy and data!
I would like to tell you services I am using and are interested in and hopefully allow you to be interested as well!
Search Engines:
- DuckDuckGo: Privacy Focused, No trackers
- Brave Search: Privacy Focused, Superior search results, Fluid experience
- StartPage: A fast, Google like feeling that does not contain trackers and allows you to mask your ip, dns, location and user profile, via "anonymous view". Good for viewing websites that you aren't sure are safe, but still beware of the potential issues, but great idea!
Mail Services:
- ProtonMail: I personally use this service and it has been a great experience! Of course the free version is limited in many ways, but it isn't limited in usability, just more for advanced users looking into having multiple folders. The free version, which I use is quite good! I have 1 gb because if you use ProtonMail enough they will boost it from 500 mb to 1 gb. And I do not see it going up barely at all.. Currently at 7.8 mb and imported ALL my google emails and forwarded everything to ProtonMail, no issues so far and it is a privacy focused mail service and I highly recommend it!
- TutaMail: Another service similar to ProtonMail, it is a private and secure alternative to Gmail and it works well people say! I personally haven't used this so I can not give a full review but it seems great! Many people like it and it promises privacy and security and they have been very transparent about their works! Great look for them!
Calander:
- ProtonMail: Private and secure Calander app.. Not much to say but the UI corresponds well with every other Proton app so it looks and feels connected!
- TutaMail: Another Private And Secure Calander service.. Not much to say as well but good at privacy and security
Authenticator Apps:
- Ente Auth: I personally use this and I find it SO much better than google, of course with the benefits of privacy and security.. It allows you to see the next 2fa code so if you are a slow typer, or you miss the numbers in time, you can always just use the next 2fa codes and use it when the next codes show up.. Great service and I have had no issues!
Photos App:
- Ente Photos: I think this service is great! It keeps your data in a private and secure cloud based storage which is convenient! Now since it is over the cloud it does have risks.. this is not just an Ente thing.. cloud based services you always have to be cautious, but I haven't had any issues and I use the free 10 GB, which is INCREDIBLE, I can't believe a service that's free, and private and secure allows 10 GB, incredible!
Google Notes:
- Notesnook: I use Notesnook because it has a privacy focused goal and I appreciate that! It works well and syncs across all devies.. It is also encrypted and says nobody besides you can see your notes.. Seems cool and the usability is great!
Password Manager (Google)
- ProtonPass: I use ProtonPass because I have other Proton products and its UI is incredible! It is one of the best UI's of a password manager I have ever used! It works great as well and allows you to use Hide-My-Email Alias so you can not use your real gmail, or email account.. I find it incredible due to ease of use! Quite pricy but Proton Unlimited will get you every proton service for around 119.. Which isn't bad for the products you are receiving.. Incredible services!
- Bitwarden: I personally used Bitwarden before ProtonPass and it was really good! UI isn't the best.. but it works great! If you want to pay them it is 10 dollars a year.. Which grants you even more access such as 2fa hosting and note attachments with photos.. It seems great for the price and for it being 10 dollars.. That's incredible!
- 1Password: Sadly it isn't open source, but the UI and experience seems good, I personally hvae not used them but I have seen many videos and it seems to work good! Only issue is that it isn't open source..
Google Maps:
- MagicEarth: I personally use MagicEarth and it is quite decent.. Of course you will never be able to compete with google.. but it is an AMAZING alternative and is privacy focused and secure.. and it works well with destination routing! Though it's hard to find an alternative to google maps..
That is all I have so far on my quick little Degoogling experience. I of course, could have been more in depth and include more, but I do not wish to promote something I do not use nor have much experience on. I hope this helps someone out!
I highly recommend Proton Unlimited, because it includes the VPN, Mail, Pass, Calander, Bitcoin wallet and Drive.. And all that for 1 year with the price of $119 is incredible! Of course Proton does have deals coming up around Black Friday and Cyber Monday so checking that out to get a nice discount is always nice!
I hope this helped you out and if you have any questions you can leave a comment! I will reply to you ASAP!
