I think anyone should use their own Custom Email Domain when it comes to using Email Accounts. By the end of this post. I will share you which Domain Provider I use and how much does it cost.
Today, I'm sharing you 3 reasons why you should use your own Custom Domain and not what your Email Provider gives you.
Reason #1 - You'll lose access to your Email Address. Let's say you've signed up for Internet Service Provider and they give you a free Email Account. But, however for whatever reason. You don't like your current ISP and switch to a better ISP or you're moving to your new house and it don't have your current ISP. If you cancel your ISP. There is a chance you will lose access to your Email Account. It's not just ISP Email Accounts. If you use Gmail. Let's say Google banned your Google Account for violated YouTube Guidelines or Google Policy. If your Google Account is banned than you lose access to your Gmail Account. This can also happen to Encrypted Email Providers. For example Ctemplar has it's own Encrypted Email Provider. But Ctemplar was shutdown and many people lose access to their Email Account. Here's another example. Skiff is one the best Free Encrypted Email Provider. But we all know what happened next. Skiff was sold to Notion and they shutdown the Email Provider. But if you use your own Custom Domain. If your Email Account was banned, removed, or shutdown. You can redirect your Custom Domain to another Email Provider.
Reason #2 - You can create multiple aliases for more privacy protection and more professional. There are Email Providers that do allow multiple aliases. Creating multiple aliases is a good thing. It protects your privacy and it prevents you from getting spams. But, creating multiple aliases under your Email Provider's Domain Name is most likely not going to be professional and not going to be privacy. Making more aliases is going to make it harder for you and anyone to remember. But with Custom Domain. Since you do owned a Domain Name. You can create aliases very simple and easy to remember. So, it can be more professional and more privacy for you. Here's a perfect example. Let's say you've created 3 aliases. 1 for personal use, 1 for sharing to public, and 1 for creating account. Your email address should be like. John@example.com, contact@example.com, and walmart@example.com.
Reason #3 - It will save you time from changing email address on multiple accounts. Yes, this is true. If you happened to create billions accounts using the same email address. As I've already mentioned in Reason #1. If you lose your email account. You lose access to your emails and you have to change email address on billions accounts you've created and it's a pain in the ass. It's a complete waste of time doing that. You do need your email address for important reason. Like let's say you need to check your email to verify what you're trying to do like changing your password, activate 2FA, confirm your payment, or login to your account. If you're using your own Custom Domain and lose access to your email address. You can redirect your Domain Name to another Email Provider and you don't need to change your email address on billions accounts you've created.
So, you know using your own Custom Email Domain is a good idea. But, which Domain Provider do I recommend? I personally use Cloudflare Domains. It's the cheapest. .com and .org are the most popular domain and the price is affordable. .us and .cc are the cheapest domain. Most Email Providers has instructions how to setup DNS Records on your Domain Name.
If you don't like Cloudflare Domains. There are alternative options like Porkbun and Namecheap. If Tom Spark is reading this. I'm sure he'll share his favorite Domain Provider.
