Ever since ExpressVPN got acquired, it’s been hard not to feel like the product has taken a back seat. Don’t get me wrong—ExpressVPN still works, and it’s still reliable enough for basic use like streaming or general browsing. But compared to how it used to feel—quick updates, new features, constant improvements—it’s like the team stopped pushing forward. Updates are infrequent, major new features are scarce, and it almost feels like they’re resting on reputation rather than building anything that keeps up with competitors.
Honestly, it’s frustrating because ExpressVPN used to feel like it was genuinely trying to lead in the space. Now it feels like just another checkbox: “Yep, it’s a VPN, it does the job.” For the price you’re paying, you’d expect more energy, more innovation, and more engagement from the team. Instead it feels a bit abandoned, like they figured the brand name alone will keep subscribers around. If you want something that feels alive and actively improving, there are cheaper options out there that are hustling harder than ExpressVPN is right now.
